Alison and Alyson talked to Isabel and Mike from Drugstore. No, really.
How do you think it went today?
Isabel- I thought it went down pretty well. I could see like a sea of smiling faces, it was so nice. Even far away I could see people dancing, it was great just to see that. I wish everyone could go on that stage and have the same perspective that I had, it was brilliant.
Have you seen any other bands at Phoenix?
Isabel- Ooo, no, I haven't. Actually, I have- Linoleum who were the first band on main stage and I thought they were really cool.
Are there any bands you'd like to have seen?
Isabel- I'm very tempted with the idea of watching The Sex Pistols because I think it's almost a historical thing. I've never seen The Sex Pistols and I have a vague idea of what they're about, but I'd like to see them, but maybe I won't, I don't know.
What's your favourite colour and why?
Isabel- I go through phases. I'm in this green phase which has nothing to do with the environment with the amount of hair spray I use I'm not someone who's really concerned about the ozone layer, though I am, deep down I am. I don't know, I change, I've had my black phase, I had a white phase.. I think each day you wake up and think "How do I feel today?" and then you choose your colour.
What do you think to the toilets?
Isabel- This is kind of sad really, but artists have special toilets back stage, and they were very clean and they had little flowers and like a potpourri, so they were very nice.
Would you ever allow your music to be used in an advert?
Isabel- We've been offered a couple of things but I think It's gotta be something that you feel like "Oh yeah, I really want to be associated with this product because it's great or it's fun or it's something I really use..." I don't know, it's a difficult question. It's funny, a few years ago it was like a death sentence on a band, doing an advert. But these days bands like Supergrass and Elastica are doing adverts, and they don't care. Sometimes I think you have to be careful with those things, but on the other hand, life is short, if doing the advert is going to mean you have a great holiday and come back with a great album, you know, why not?
What are the next plans for the band?
Isabel- We're kind of recording the next album as we speak, and doing just a few festivals, having a single out before the end of the year, and having a good album out next year, I hope.
What last made you laugh?
Isabel- That woman from Drugstore taking her knickers off on stage and saying "Eat your heart out Dolores!" You know, I thought that was funny actually!
Which is your favourite Drugstore song and why?
Isabel- I don't know, I think bands tend to always be in love with their newer stuff because they get excited about it, but, I don't know.. everything we've done we like it, we think it's cool otherwise we wouldn't be doing it. Have you got a favourite Drugstore song, Mike?
Mike- Accelerate.
Why?
Mike- Why? Aaaah, I don't know, the moods, it's just nice.
