RB: What does your daughter think of the new album?
HB: She loves it.
RB: In 92 you were signed to Fourth and Broadway or Island and you recorded an album with Doby for Norwood Soul but the album was never released. Do you think it ever will be?
HB: Yes, next year on Pussyfoot.
RB: Music For Babies was quite Eno-like in that it was created to be a habitable space. Could you imagine an environment for your new album?
HB: A lounge full of your friends just before you go out.
RB: Like MoWax you seem to have an increasing musical ambition and have shown interest in lots of belief systems (psychology and whatnot.) Are you conscious of any of this when creating your music?
HB: My life is my music. In my life is literature, love, children, women, family.
RB: Is it difficult trying to keep personal momentum and focus when you are so busy?
HB: Yes it is a struggle, and something I constantly battle with.
RB: The cities of Glasgow and Manchester seem to have been prominent in your life - do you think theyve influenced your attitude to music and life?
HB: Yes, I would be stupid to say they hadnt. They coloured my character, they colour my music.
RB: Are you ever going to take time off?
HB: I am in Iceland now kicking back so much it hurts!!
RB: What do you think about the conflict thats grown between people who want to create music for clubs and people who want to create music for home listening, and where do you see yourself fitting in?
HB: Both, and its not a conflict. Music is not conflict, music is social.
RB: Considering youre touring with U2, what do you think about the live/electronic collaboration?
HB: It is opening doors and creating space for new moves in music.
RB: Have you any advice for any burgeoning bedroom tecchies?
HB: Dont compromise, dont read the manual, and make it go up and down, right to left, back to front.
RB: Your music doesnt really have any lyrics yet there is text in your album covers. What do you think about the place in music for words?
HB: There is place, there are notes in life and melody with lyric if words are the most satisfying thing.
