Six By Seven
London Highbury Garage

I like this. In fact, I like it a lot. What we have here could be the start of something beautiful. Six By Seven get on with the business, get right into the business, and proceed to be the business. It's easy to see where the Girls Against Boys comparisons come from - they have that brooding presence and some killer grooves - but such quick conclusions are not enough really. This is a band that seems to have already carved their own sound while managing to bypass the pretensions that come with playing like you mean it. There's some huge guitar noise and plenty of wash from the keyboards to make you think towards My Bloody Valentine or Jesus and Mary Chain at their noisiest but Six By Seven have their own tunes to make it move in a different direction. When they turn great songs like ‘Your Town’ and ‘Candlelight’ into almost primal surges of pure musical energy, it makes you believe in the power of live music once more. This is a band you need to see and hear because Six By Seven are great and they are going to be greater.
